Today, Bystander Revolution announced that actress Lily Collins is joining forces with the organization to spread the word about simple acts that can deliver real short and long-term benefits in the fight against bullying. Lily Collins will be joining other speakers and performers, such as Seattle Seahawks’ head coach Pete Carroll, Apolo Ohno, Kweku Mandela, Laila Ali and others at the KeyArena on Thursday, April 23 for We Day Seattle, an event celebrating 15,000 students passionate about making a positive impact on the world. Lily Collins will be leading We Day’s segment on Social Empowerment and delivering a speech on behalf of Bystander Revolution where she serves as an ambassador.
Bystander Revolution’s website launched one year ago on April 23, 2014 with videos from celebrities, students, and leaders. To coincide with its anniversary, Bystander Revolution is launching a new social media initiative called #standkind, a challenge to spread kindness online in the form of compliments on social media posts.
We Day Seattle marks Lily Collins’ first event as an ambassador for Bystander Revolution. The actress, known for her work in such films as The Blind Side, Mirror Mirror, and Love Rosie, first partnered with the organization by making several videos for Bystander Revolution’s website launch last year. She has since worked with the organization by supporting its social media initiatives and assisting with outreach efforts to help students being targeted by cyberbullying.
“Bystander Revolution’s mission and the work they’ve done over the past year is so inspiring and close to my heart,” said Lily Collins. “Through open communication, inclusion, and kindness we all have the ability to change the culture and stop bullying from being the norm. I’m so excited to spread Bystander Revolution’s message at We Day about how the smallest simplest acts can have the biggest, most memorable impact.”
“Bullying and cyberbullying cause so much suffering, and everyone would like to see the culture change,” said MacKenzie Bezos, Bystander Revolution’s Founder and Executive Director. “The good news is there are so many small things individuals can do that have a huge impact. We are thrilled to have Lily Collins helping us get the word out to an audience of so many passionate students at We Day.”
