The first trailer for “The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones” was released. Be sure to watch it below.
It was officially announced yesterday that Lily is set to star in “The Mortal Instruments“, it was already officially announced but now it’s official. Deadline also has more information about the movie.
Putting to rest weeks of rampant speculation about director and cast, Constantin Film and Unique Features announced today that Harald Zwart will direct actress Lily Collins in the hotly anticipated film adaptation of Cassandra Clare’s #1 best-selling book series “The Mortal Instruments.”
In the series’ first book “The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones”, set in contemporary New York City, a seemingly ordinary teenager, Clary Fray, discovers she is the descendant of a line of Shadowhunters, a secret cadre of young half-angel warriors locked in an ancient battle to protect our world from demons. After the disappearance of her mother, Clary must join forces with a group of Shadowhunters, who introduce her to a dangerous alternate New York called Downworld, filled with demons, warlocks, vampires, werewolves and other deadly creatures.
Hopefully, this week has been a fun one for all you “Mortal Instruments” fans, given all the newsy goodness MTV News got from star Lily Collins and director Scott Stewart at WonderCon. And you know what? There is STILL more to come! Today’s installment features lovely Lily talking about all the #awesome #fun she’s having on Twitter, writing as her character (@LilyAsClaryFray).
“I’m Tweeting as Clary Fray, and we’ve got almost 12,000 people now,” Lily said. “All the fans are writing in ideas. I’m linking out images of different aspects of the film and set pieces and wanting their input,” she explained. “Also knowing who they want as Jace, just making sure they feel as involved as I do because like I said, I’m a fan just like them and I’m Clary, so I want their input because I’m one of them as well.”
Since playing Sandra Bullock and Tim McGraw’s daughter in The Blind Side, Lily Collins‘ career has really taken off. Collins just nabbed the lead in Relativity Media’s Snow White project, is set to take on the starring role of ‘Clary’ in The Mortal Instruments, and she recently wrapped up work on Abduction opposite Twilight’s Taylor Lautner. Plus, she’ll soon be seen on the big screen in the action-adventure thriller Priest.
The 22 year old actress joined her Priest co-stars Paul Bettany and Cam Gigandet at the 2011 WonderCon in San Francisco to talk about the genre-bending film set for release on May 13th. Check out our exclusive interview to see what Collins had to say about playing ‘the screamer’ in Screen Gems’ Priest as well as a little news on Mortal Instruments:
‘He’s got to have wit but also be very vulnerable,’ she tells MTV News.
Although “The Mortal Instruments” movie has found its Clary Fray, via actress Lily Collins, there are still a few big roles to be cast — mainly one Jace Wayland, Clary’s is-he-or-isn’t-he love interest.
We’ve had some fun speculating about rumored contenders and fan favorites, but when MTV News sat down with Lily Collins at WonderCon recently, we asked her to comment on the heated casting competition — specifically, what they’re looking for in their future Jace. (Head to our Hollywood Crush blog for everything we’ve got on Cassandra Clare’s fourth “Mortal Instruments” book, “City of Fallen Angels,” which hits stores Tuesday.)
“Jace is confident and knows he’s confident,” Collins explained. “He’s good-looking and knows he’s good-looking. He’s got that je ne sais quoi, in that he walks into a room and you go, ‘Wow.’ He knows he’s the best thing in the room. He’s got to have wit but also be very vulnerable, and I think it’s hard. I think a lot of actors don’t necessarily want to show vulnerability, but [for] this character, it’s completely necessary but, at the same time, that overconfidence as well. I think it’s going to be that thing where they walk into a room and you do a reading and go, ‘Wow, I really can’t see anyone else as this character,’ so it’s going to be an interesting process.”
‘If they don’t necessarily see you in the part, that can be an issue,’ actress tells MTV News of book series’ loyal readers.
Among the movie-obsessed here at MTV News, there is always a lot of talk about highly anticipated upcoming films. Naturally, the summer blockbusters garner their fair share of enthusiasm, but recently, a lot of talk has turned toward the much-buzzed-about book-to-screen adaptations of young adult novels such as “The Hunger Games” and “The Mortal Instruments.”
Speaking to director Scott Stewart’s adaptation of “Mortal Instruments,” MTV News recently caught up with lucky actress Lily Collins, who will portray fan-favorite protagonist Clarissa “Clary” Fray, about what makes the film and book series so special.
“It’s an amazing series of books,” Collins gushed to MTV News at WonderCon. “Cassandra Clare’s books are incredible. I’m a huge fan myself, so to be able to play the heroine I love is incredible. It’s a story based on a young woman, an empowered young woman [who is] confident and determined, and she ends up surprising everyone with her abilities,” Collins explained. “I think it’s incredible for the story to be about a young girl and not one that is just a girl in the story. It really is her story.”
Here’s a video with Lily at the WonderCon Priest panel, where she’s talking about her upcoming projects Snow White and The Mortal Instruments. I have also added a video with Lily at the panel discussing her Priest role.
Lily Collins is stepping into two huge roles. It was just announced that she’s playing Snow White in the untitled film where Julia Roberts plays the Evil Queen. And she’s also starring in the movie of Cassandra Clare’s Mortal Instruments.
We got a chance to talk to Lily Collins about taking on the challenging Snow White role, and she told a Wondercon crowd about her excitement at taking on Clare’s epic saga.
So who is Lily Collins? She was in The Blind Side, and she also plays the young girl who gets kidnapped by vampires in Priest. And she’s the daughter of former Genesis frontman Phil Collins — talking to reporters at Wondercon, she said that he’s a proud father and she’s a proud daughter.
Collins’ movie is one of three Snow White films in the pipeline, but apart from the casting of Julia Roberts as the Evil Queen, her film has another huge advantage — it’s directed by Tarsem Singh (Immortals). Collins told us:
I’ve met Tarsem but I’m excited to meet the cast. I’m excited to start training and just getting into the costumes and everything. I was just cast yesterday. It’s all new and fresh for me.
And meanwhile, she’ll be reunited with her Priest director, Scott Stewart, for Clare’s Mortal Instruments, in which supernatural forces battle in present-day New York. Collins told the Priest panel at Wondercon:
Mortal Instruments is a huge deal for me. I’m a fan myself. So I am so excited for the fourth book to come out, and to be able to portray a heroine that I have loved reading and imagined in my head to be that girl and to work with Scott [Stewart] again.
She said that Screen Gems, which is making Mortal, is very willing to be accomodating schedule-wise, so she can make the as-yet-untitled Snow White film as well.
