Hello Lily fans! 2016 has already come to an end to some of you (for those who have already a head start on 2017– We wish you a Happy New Year!) Inspired by my friends Gabby from jaredleto.net and Luciana from amyadamsfan.com, i decided to put together a YEAR IN REVIEW post to summarize Lily’s career on this year.
It is fair to say that 2016 has been quite a busy year for Lily. After taking a year off, Lily made a big return as she got roles in Amazon’s “The Last Tycoon” (that had its pilot release in June) and the movies “To The Bone”, “Okja” and “Halo of Stars”. The theatrical release of “Rules Don’t Apply” also occurred this year.

2016 started off great for Lily! At the beginning of 2016, it was announced that she would be starring in Amazon’s “The Last Tycoon” as Cecelia Brady – a TV series which centers on Hollywood’s first wunderkind studio executive in the 1930s, Monroe Stahr, and the power struggle between him and his mentor and current head of the studio Pat Brady. On January 8, she attended the Creative Artists Agency’s Golden Globes Pre-Party and a few days later, she was seen attending the Stella McCartney Autumn 2016 Presentation. In February, she attended the SAINT LAURENT Fashion Show, which was held at The Palladium in Los Angeles.
“The Last Tycoon” began filming its pilot episode in January 5. Lily was first photographed on set February 11 and later on February 24– Where she reunited with “Mirror, Mirror”co-star Julia Roberts.
In March, it was announced Lily would star in “To The Bone” as Ellen, alongside Carrie Preston and Keanu Reeves. It will tell the story of a young woman dealing with anorexia. Right on the next day, it was announced that she would be joining Jake Gyllenhaal in Netflix’s Monster Movie “Okja”. She begun shooting “To The Bone” in April.
In May, Lily attended the annual MET Gala, which was held at the New York Metropolitan Museum. She was wearing a gorgeous Valentino gown. She then attended an “Alice Through The Looking Glass” event in West Hollywood alongside actress Anne Hathaway, on May 12. A couple of days later, it was released by Entertainment Weekly a first look at Lily in “Rules Don’t Apply”– Along with the news that the movie would have its theatrical release on November 11! We complete the month with the release of Peter Pan’s audiobook, which Lily lent her voice to, and the first “The Last Tycoon” stills (x).
June begun with the release of a PSA about eating disorders featuring Lily and her co-stars and crew from “To The Bone”. In the powerful video, they read out the “Nine Truths About Eating Disorders.”
The official trailer for “Rules Don’t Apply” was released on July. At the end of the month, it was announced that “The Last Tycoon” had been picked up to series by Amazon. Lily was first spotted on set of “Okja” in July, with red hair and a nose ring. The film wrapped the next month, on August.
On August 30 it was announced that “Rules Don’t Apply” would be opening the AFI Fest on November 10. September arrived with the news that Lily would be joining Anthony Lucero’s movie based on “The Clown” (later named “Halo of Stars”), and the release of a brand new trailer of “Rules Don’t Apply.”
Lily attended attended a press conference for the “Rules Don’t Apply” on October 6, in Beverly Hills. It was later announced that Lily would be receiving a Hollywood Film Award for her role in Warren Beatty’s movie, plus would be releasing a very personal memoir titled “Unfiltered: No Shame, No Regrets, Just Me” in March 2017!
The end of October marks the start of “Rules Don’t Apply” promotion, as the first clips of the movie are released along with a final trailer and an interview with Lily for Entertainment City. Lily made an appearance on Your Morning (October 24) and Power 96.1 (October 27), with her co-star Alden Ehrenreich.
The promotion for the movie extended to November, with Lily making her first appearance on November 2. She was at Good Morning Texas and The Kidd Kraddick Morning Show before jumping on a plane to New York to attend the Museum Of The Moving Image 30th Annual Salute. On November 3, she attended a luncheon in honor of “Rules Don’t Apply”, and a few days later, the 10th Annual GO Campaign Gala. On that week it was also announced that the movie had been nominated for a Hollywood Music in Visual Media Awards— Song: Feature Film, which is performed by Lily. Sadly, the movie lost to “La La Land”.
Lily attended the 20th Annual Hollywood Film Awards on November 6, where she received an award and joked about waiting for an invitation to be on Carpool Karaoke. On November 10, Lily attended the premiere of “Rules Don’t Apply”, which opened the AFI FEST 2016 and two days later, the 8th Annual Governors Awards. Her next appearance was at The BUILD Series where she spoke about the film and portraying a drunk Marla Mabrey. The movie’s premiere took place in San Francisco, on November 15.
“Rules Don’t Apply” received 56% of positive reviews, with an average rating of 5.9/10 on Rotten Tomatoes.
During the movie’s promotion in November, Lily attended a couple of entertainment shows: The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, TODAY Show, Late Night with Seth Meyers, TODAY Show (for a second time), This Morning’s Hot Topic, Harry and You & Me This Morning.
On November 30 it was announced that “To The Bone” would be heading to Sundance Film Festival in 2017. December started with the news that “Rules Don’t Apply” had been nominated for a Critics’ Choice Award— Best Song. Lily attended the Santa Barbara International Film Festival on December 1, where Warren Beatty was honored. Her next appearance was at Critics’ Choice Awards on December 11, where she presented the award for Best Animated Feature with actor James Marsden. Excelent news arrived for Lily the following day, when the Golden Globe Awards nominations were revealed– She had been nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture (Musical or Comedy)! The award ceremony is set to take place next year, on January 8.
With the release of “The Last Tycoon” and “Rules Don’t Apply” Lily was featured in some magazines such as Vanity Fair (September and November) and Malibu Magazine (December), in which she graced the cover.
2016 marks 3 years since Lily signed up with Lâncome, to promote the cosmetic products. She’s promoted quite a few this year, such as Blanc Expert, Hiver, UV Express, Miracle Blossom and much more.

What’s next for Lily?
2017 looks to be quite busy for Lily. To start off, she’ll be heading to Sundance Film Festival in January to promote “To The Bone”, which is set for a theatrical release next year.
There is yet no word in when “Okja” will be released but according to IMDB, it will be in 2017. New episodes of “The Last Tycoon” are also set to air next year, however we have yet to receive an official release date from Amazon.
“Unfiltered: No Shame, No Regrets, Just Me”, Lily’s personal memoir where she’ll be speaking about her own life experiences is set to be released on March 7!
While there is no news on “Halo of Stars”, according to IMDB the movie is under post-production meaning Lily already filmed it. Hopefully we’ll be hearing more on the movie soon!
